Six PhD students of IIT Dhanbad will do research in Australia, in collaboration with Curtin University


Six PhD scholars from IIT ISM Dhanbad have got the opportunity to study and research at Curtin University, Australia. Dean IRAA Prof. RM Bhattacharya said that an MoU has been signed between Curtin University Australia and IIT Dhanbad for CDP (Collaborative Doctoral Programme). The PhD degree will be awarded by both the Institutes/Universities. The selected students include Aparna Singh, Khwaja Alamgir Ahmed, Shatrughan Thakur, Sapan Kumar Pandit, Abhishek and Preeti Kumari. The CDP aims to strengthen the academic environment and research capabilities between the two institutions. Students undertaking the CDP will be awarded a single joint degree. Which will have the logo of both the home institute and the host university.

18 International Students admitted in IIT(ISM) Dhanbad for the session 2023-24


The Institute received 129 applications from 32 countries through ICCR out of which 71 applications were considered for provisional admission and 12 Students who were finally offered the scholarship by the Ministry of Education through ICCR which could finally make it to IIT(ISM) Campus. From Study in India (SII), the institute received 36 applications out of which 16 applications are confirmed for provisional admission, from EdCIL under Homi Jahangir Bhabha Scholarship Scheme (HJBSS), the institute confirmed 6 provisional admission out of which 4 have reported to the institute so far. While one student under the self- sponsored category joined the institute from Bangladesh.  Dean IRAA, Prof. R M Bhattacharjee informed that this year the responses of International students were very encouraging. With over 171 applicants from 32 different countries applied for admission in IIT(ISM) Dhanbad under various scholarship schemes and self-sponsored categories. So far, 18 students have been confirmed with the final admission.


IIT(ISM) Dhanbad strengthens global outreach with eleven new MoUs with International Universities


IIT(ISM) Dhanbad has made a significant move towards expanding its global outreach and academic excellence by signing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with eleven (11) leading educational and research institutions around the world. They are expected to pave the way for greater collaboration and knowledge exchange between IIT(ISM) Dhanbad and its global partners, and contribute to the growth of academic and research excellence around the world. The recent MoUs to have been signed are with Coventry University, United Kingdom, University of Porto, Portugal; University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa; University of Wollongong, Australia; Mizan Tepi University, Ethiopia; University of Queensland, Australia; along with three Indonesian universities, Universitas Widyatama, Universitas Diponegoro and Universitas Jember respectively. The isnsitute has also signed MoU with Tomsk State University and Ufa State Petroleum Technological University, two of Russia's oldest and most prestigious universities. to promote joint research, faculty exchange programs, and collaborative academic initiatives.

The collaboration will allow students and faculty to learn from each other's strengths, gain exposure to new research methodologies, and build a solid academic network. With these partnerships IIT(ISM) aim to explore new avenues for research and innovation in energy and environmental sciences. The institute expressed its optimism about the MoUs, stating that they reflect the commitment to achieving academic and research excellence, attracting the best talent from around the world, and providing students and faculty with unparalleled learning and research opportunities. Prof. R M Bhattacharjee informed that, “These collaborations are part of IIT(ISM) Dhanbad's efforts to strengthen its global outreach and position itself as a leading global institution. The partnerships will provide opportunities for students and faculty to gain exposure to diverse academic and research cultures, foster innovation and research in areas of mutual interest, and build a strong network of academic and research institutions”


AQUAMARINE: Newly-constructed 2000-seat boys


To be called 'AQUAMARINE': Newly-constructed 2000-seat boys' hostel, finds a name The newly-constructed 2000-seat boys’ hostel on campus which is ready for dedication has finally got its name. Yes, after two rounds of voting, first on Instagram and then via google form which was sent to all including our alumni, eventually a name was chosen. Of the four most suggested names (Aquamarine, Garnet, Zircon, and Pearl) , AQUAMARINE received the highest vote. An aerial view of the hostel, actually has a fish-like structure, so a well-deserved name comes to it. This IIT(ISM) diversity is here to improve students’ experience. The design of the new boys’ hostel has a contemporary aesthetic and provides occupants with vast vistas of the city from the upper floors. Thank you for participating in the naming process and for choosing AQUAMARINE as a name for this spectacular building.


Schools students of Jharkhand visited the research labs of IIT(ISM)


Schools students of Jharkhand visited the research labs of IIT(ISM) under K-12 Outreach programme. It is an initiative of IIT(ISM) to equip school students of Jharkhand for a career in STEM. Students of grades 9-12 can participate in this excursion. At first visit, DAV Public School, Sindri and other of Shraddhanand Bal Mandir Senior Secondary School, Kamre, Ranchi visited the different laboratories and research facilities of institute, including, Naresh Vashisht Centre for Tinkering and Innovation (NVCTI); mining technology innovation hub titled, TEXMiN; CIL Innovation Hub; Longwall Mine, Geological Museum and Seismological Laboratory.
